This year, instead of the traditional Principles of Light Microscopy course, we are offering an advance version in respond to requets from many of you. The course will be highly practical and will focus on four topics, selected in advance by the participants.

You will find a list of possible topics in the registration form. Please select up to four. The four topics with the most votes will be included in the course.

Important notes:

  • Registration deadline: Thursday, 28 August 2025. Please register only if you are able to participate in the complete course (full time)!
  • The number of participants is limited to 10 DIPP predocs. We will inform you as soon as possible after the deadline (and no later than ten days before the course) whether a slot in the course could be assigned to you!

Teachers: The course will be taught by experts from the Light Microscopy Facilities of CMCB

Content: The course will cover four of the following topics:

  1. Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy (single photon)
  2. Spinning Disk
  3. Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Microscopy (FLIM)
  4. AiryScan
  5. 2-Photon Microscopy
  6. Lightsheet Microscopy
  7. Laser Microdissection
  8. Live Cell Imaging
  9. Optical Clearing
  10. Deconvolution
  11. Segmentation and 3D rendering in Arivis

Structure: Theoretical parts will be followed by practical hands-on sessions at teaching microscopes. Local tutors will help during these sessions. During practical parts and demonstrations small subgroups of students working together with teachers might be form.

Requirements: Full attendance!! - Please note that you are expected to dedicate your time fully to this course, to be present during the whole course and not to plan any additional activities during the schedule of the course. Therefore, please apply only if you can ensure full attendance throughout the four days.
